Barnacles on Lottie's prop17 viewsSomewhere under there is a rope cutter. This was taken after haul out in November after a single season afloat. There was virtually no barnacle on the antifouled surfaces.Feb 03, 2010

Fitting a hood - more frame trials23 viewsTelescopic stretchers between the frames make it easy to try out different shapes and angles. Lotties main windows had been removed for replacement. Forward windows had already been replaced by previous owner who found 4 exact replacements in a boatyard by chance. Lucky dog!Jan 20, 2010

Fitting a hood - Offering up the frame21 viewsThis is the stage where you fiddle around getting the hood the height, shape, position, overhang etc that you want to end up with. The variables are the position fore and aft of the roof pivot (hinge) heights of the rails, distance apart etc
When you have got it the way you want it you measure the distance between the rails in the centre and send this to Martex who make the cloth bit accordingly to fit. Without mast up make sure it fits under the boom!

Fitting a hood - untrimmed cover fitted for the first time20 viewsPlenty of spare material round the bottom. This was marked with dressmakers chalk to get the right shape and an inch or so added on for hemming. The position of the handrails also marked for the slots that have to be cut round these. Also the position and shape of the sliding hatch was marked. Jan 20, 2010

Fitting a hood - Trimmed cover before fixings were attached22 viewsHood hemmed and trimmed round handrail with webbing reinforcement to prevent sliding hatch wearing the hood material. The telescopic ridge pole can be seen here though we do not find it generally necessary to use this - its just another thing to take off when you want to drop the hood which we tend to do when clearing decks for close manouevres like coming alongside. The plastic windows are nice and big and 4 years later still clear though we take the hood off for winter and store at home.Jan 20, 2010

Fitting a hood - view inside trimmed hood before fixing down23 viewsNotice 3 bars - bottom bar bridges the sliding hatch and rests on brackets which are not really needed as it would rest on the handrails otherwise (and could be lashed on to strengthen hood as handhold at sea). We reinforced bottom hem with white webbing. Hood not fixed down at this point so you can see daylight underneath it. Jan 20, 2010
hood-finished.jpg
Fitting a hood - the end result25 viewsHood fixed behind the window with a lift-the-dot fastener and to coachroof and around the handrail and each side of the sliding hatch with press studs. Webbing straps attach aft to the cockpit coaming. We don't get puddles on the hood when it rains. Its easy to drop the hood by simply letting off the straps whereupon it all collapses forward. There are webbing straps to hold it down but we have never found them necessary. Those are our new windows btw from Technautic. Profile flatter than the originalsJan 20, 2010

Lady heels to fine breeze44 viewsNice shot of Tony Rosgaard's Lady beating across the lake in her homewaters - Silkeborg in central Denmark.

The number on her sail is no 7 though her hull number must be more like 200 as she was built around 1972 (the real Trident number 7 has a wooden lid)
